Culture Wars

In recent years, the world has witnessed and been victimized by this on going contentious cultural struggle. From Islamic, Jewish and Christian, to Hindu, Buddhist and what might well be described as “Tribal” fundamentalism; in all cases, these groups wield power disproportionate to their numbers. What is behind this obsession to return to some imagined, idyllic past that in fact never existed? Why such fear of free thought and free conscience? Why do intelligent people, who act rationally in all other aspects of their lives, succumb to irrational and fantastical beliefs? Ordinary people by their inaction or acquiescence give fundamentalists of all stripes undue power. All aspects of the “Culture Wars” must be examined not only by pundits, but also by ordinary people everywhere, for it is only “we the people” who can divert humanity from disaster.
